With everything that has been happening in the world, travel is out and staycations are in. But, what are some activities you can include in your staycation? That’s right, a DIY at-home wellness retreat! Setting one of these up is really simple, and is going to give you the many benefits of a spa weekend. We are here to share some specific tips to help you make one happen!
Book a Time For Your Retreat
Just because this DIY wellness retreat is happening at home, doesn’t mean that you don’t need to set time aside for it. Whether you are planning to do 15 minutes per day across the following week or are clearing your entire weekend for pure relaxation, make sure you have blocked the time; otherwise, you might end up putting it off.
Pick a Meditation
It is important to start each day of your retreat with a meditation that will clear your mind and set your intentions. There are various meditation apps or meditation guides on YouTube to assist you. You should also set the scene. Set up a yoga mat to ensure comfort. Light some candles to relax the atmosphere. Get some incense flowing to heighten some of your senses.
Create a Home Spa Vibe
As mentioned above, we want to set the retreat vibe in your home. Use essential oils to create an authentic retreat feel. Aromatherapy experts have recommended using 2 drops of Frankincense, 2 drops of Atlas Cedarwood and 4 drops of Sweet Orange essential oils in an oil burner. Frankincense is used as it calms and deepens your breath. Atlas Cedarwood gently uplifts you, whilst making you feel strong and secure. Sweet orange has a pleasant aroma that aids relaxation and uplifts the spirits.
Additional ideas include shutting the curtains, light as many candles as you can and play some relaxing music, whether that be nature sounds, light melodies or white noise.

Take a Hot Bath
Let’s all be honest, nothing relaxes the mind and body like a hot bath. Use some of your essential oils and Epsom salts to create your very own bath salts! YogiApproved has some recipes here to get you started.
Have an Agenda for Both Energizing and Relaxing Activities
No wellness retreat is complete without a little bit of movement. Before or after your relaxing spa therapies, try including some yoga, Pilates, hot room exercises or taking turns massaging one another with your partner.
Go On a Digital Detox
Try and ban all screens on your detox time. You cannot truly relax if you are still connected to technology. Therefore you have to try and disconnect yourself from your phone, social media and streaming services. It can be difficult in the beginning, but soon you’ll realize how and why the detox helps you feel refreshed and more connected to the real world.
